Pokročilé akordy

Následující série akordů jsou vyspělé obraty akordů používané v romském jazzu. Mastery of these techniques will enhance your ability to embellish and reharmonize standard chord progressions.

Advanced Chords

The following series of chords are the advanced voicings used in Gypsy jazz. These chords, which are based on what Django and contemporary Gypsy virtuosos use, will enable you to create a harmonically rich texture in your rhythm playing. Notice that there are a great many tensions that were absent from the previous Beginning and Intermediate chord charts (i.e., II, b9, bI3, etc.)

You will find the greatest number of tensions on dominant chords. Because thev are inherently unstable, additional tensions are particularly effective on dominant chords. Django used these tensions to create stunning musical effects. Despite the addition of extra tensions, major and minor chords are mostly limited to the addition of the 6th and 9th chord tones. As mentioned previously, the 6/9 sound is the foundation of Gypsy jazz harmony.

These advanced voicings are the most challenging and beautiful chords used in the traditional Gypsy style. It's always best to learn new musical techniques by applying them to songs. So you should practice these chords in conjunction with the „Advanced“ versions of the songs found in the Transcriptions section of this book.
