We have included the entire Band-in-a-Box® package, with all of the RealTracks and RealDrums, pre-installed on this portable USB 2.5" hard drive.

To do this, run the „Band-in-a-Box Setup“ installer located on the root level of the hard drive, and select both the option to install BIAB to your internal hard drive, and the option to install RealTracks to your internal hard drive. Band-in-a-Box® will be installed to the /Applications/Band-in-a-Box folder, along with all the RealTracks and Drums.

Note that copying the RealDrums and RealTracks to your Macintosh hard drive may take over an hour to complete, depending on how fast your computer is, and requires about 120 GB of free hard disk space.

An alternative method for installing the RealTracks on your internal hard drive, is to do it manually by copying and pasting the Drums and RealTracks folders. You don't need to copy any other folders or files – as long as you ran the installer and selected the option to install the Band-in-a-Box® program. This method might be useful in some specific cases, such as if you only have enough disk space to copy some of the files.

Using the USB hard drive – general information

When you plug the hard drive into a USB port, it should be mounted on your desktop automatically. Before disconnecting the drive, make sure to ‚eject‘ it first. To do this, either drag the icon to the trash, or click on it and press command-E.

The hard drive may have a ‚Y‘ cable with two USB connectors on one end. The large connector is the main data connector and needs to be plugged in. The smaller connector is for extra power, in case a single USB port on your computer doesn't supply enough power for the drive. If you are having trouble with the drive, and you have another empty USB port, plug that second cable in.

• Available USB port (if using Band-in-a-Box® on external hard drive or installing from flash drive)

For Band-in-a-Box® Version 12 and earlier users

▪ The current version of Band-in-a-Box® is backward compatible with all of the styles and songs from your earlier versions.

▪ The current version of Band-in-a-Box® is installed to the ‚/Applications/Band-in-a-Box‘ folder. Version 12 and earlier were installed to the root level of the hard drive (or Home folder), into a folder called ‚Band-in-a-Box™ Folder‘.

Tips for using RealTracks and RealDrums

▪ By default, Band-in-a-Box® looks for the RealTracks and RealDrums audio files in the ‚Drums‘ and ‚RealTracks‘ subfolders within the Band-in-a-Box folder.

▪ If you are using a ‚custom location‘ for these folders, for example if you install the Band-in-a-Box® program on your internal hard drive and leave the audio files on the USB drive, you will need to specify the custom location in the RealTracks and RealDrums Settings dialogs within Band-in-a-Box®. This also applies if you copy the folders to your internal hard drive in a location other than the /Applications/Band-in-a-Box folder.

▪ Note that there are some files that are always installed in the Band-in-a-Box® folder even if you use a custom location for your RealTracks and Drums folders. These include Band-in-a-Box® styles (.STY files), Demo songs (.MGU and .SGU), and other data files that are required for the styles to work.

▪ You will want to make sure that you have ALL RealTracks in the same location and ALL RealDrums in the same location, since Band-in-a-Box® can only use one folder at a time. _____________­________________________­______________

Installing Band-in-a-Box for a non-administrator user.

▪ Installation requires an administrator password and Band-in-a-Box® is installed to the /Applications/Band-in-a-Box folder, but Band-in-a-Box® can still be used under Standard / Limited accounts.

▪ If you are having trouble using Band-in-a-Box® as a Standard User (such as error messages when you start the program) set the privileges of the Band-in-a-Box folder to Read&Write for all users and Apply this change to all subfolders and files. You can do this in the Get Info window for the Band-in-a-Box folder, in the Sharing and Permissions section.
